Spent a quiet afternoon in my hobby room listening to Gregorian Chant and archiving a lot I bought at a Rhode Island estate liquidation, of original Dakota Territory D Barry photographs and mid-18th century letters to a young soldier stationed at Fort Lincoln, south of Bismarck-Mandan.

These back-and-forth letters between a teenage Charles Abbott and his mother, who lived in Warwick, RI, are fascinating. He complains about the food and his officers; she tells him to wear sweaters and not stand too close to the artillery so he doesn’t hurt his ears. Mothers!
Then researched Charles who passed away in Warwick in 1923 in his mother’s home, where she still lived. Heading out now for dinner and a dance – a ying to this afternoon’s reflective yang.
